Music at Nazareth University!!
The 2023 Nazareth University School of Music Piano Pedagogy Workshop took place on Monday June 26th and Tuesday June 27th in Rochester, New York. I was really fortunate to attend!
The Featured Clinician was Dr. Peter Mack. Dr. Mack is the President of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).
The Guest Clinician was Megan Resnick. Megan is the Chair of the Department of Music and Performing Arts at Robert Wesleyan University in Rochester.
The event was co-sponsored by the Rochester Music Teachers Guild and the New York State Music Teachers Association.
Here was the schedule of activities for Monday June 26th & Tuesday June 27th:
On Monday June 26th, Peter Mack gave a presentation entitled: "Lower the Rear End of the Elephant on the Keys". While Dr. Mack is most serious in his work as a Pianist, Pedagogue, Clinician, and President of MTNA, he also has a SUPER sense of humor! Part 1 of the presentation ran from 1:00 pm through 2:30 pm, while Part 2 of the presentation ran from 2:45 pm through 3:45 pm.
From 4:15 pm through 5:15 pm, Peter Mack concluded the afternoon with a presentation entitled "The Art of the Phrase".
On Tuesday June 28th, Dr. Mack started the day from 9:00 am through 10:00 am with a presentation entitled: "Not Only Fur Elise: Gorgeous Unknown Compositions from Well-Known Composers", followed by a break.
From 10:30 am through 11:30 am, Peter Mack gave a presentation entitled: "When the Foundation has Already Been Laid: The Transfer Student".
After a Q & A from 11:30 am through Noon, and after sharing a meal with Peter at lunchtime, Dr. Mack gave his first lecture of the afternoon at 1:00 pm with a presentation entitled: "That's Not the Way it Goes! Can Performers serve the audience AND the Composer?"
From 2:00 pm through 3:00 pm, Guest Clinician Megan Resig gave a presentation entitled: "Creating Inclusive Music Spaces: A Trauma-Informed Approach", followed by a Q & A at 3:00 pm, before a break at 3:15 pm.
