Music + Motivation: "There are three ways to ultimate success..." - Mr Rogers

Happy Thursday, world,

ICYMI, here's the full quote:

"There are three ways to ultimate success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind.”

—Mister Rogers

Let's go deeper.

In the pursuit of personal and professional success, a simple yet powerful principle often guides us: the importance of kindness. This idea, subtly woven into the fabric of our lives, is central to my work as a youth empowerment through songwriting coach, musician, keynote speaker, and singer/songwriter. It underscores the value of authenticity, empathy, and emotional expression through music and creativity. And I'm not just talking about kindness towards others, yes. But also - almost more importantly - kindness towards ourselves.

Especially when it comes to overcoming and healing from traumatic or painful events.

The recent nomination of my song "Barbed Wire" for the Wammy Awards in the "Best Pop Song" and "Best Music Video" categories is a humbling example of how music can address complex and sensitive issues like sexual assault. This song, emerging from a place of honesty and vulnerability, seeks to resonate with and support others facing similar struggles [let's be real: the stats are staggering]. I am honored by this recognition and encourage your support for this message by voting at wammiesdc.org.

Music's role in enhancing our mental health is crucial. In a world that often emphasizes outward success, the significance of expressing our true emotions is vital. Whether in educational settings, professional environments, or personal relationships, our mental well-being is the foundation of our achievements and interactions. Music and creativity provide a unique and powerful means for this expression, helping us to understand, process, and communicate our feelings, leading to healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Thankfully: I'm not the only one who understands the power of music when it comes to leading with kindness when it comes to building community and growing together.

I'm excited to announce a new residency at Lost Generation Brewery. This opportunity allows me to deepen my connection with audiences, sharing music that entertains and touches the soul. You can, of course, keep up to date with upcoming gigs and speaking engagements at www.emmagmusic.com.

The excitement continues as I prepare to head to LA for the National American Music Merchants [NAMM] festival, a celebration of the unifying power of music. Following this, I'll debut at West Hollywood's Miss Melbourne Coffee House, an opportunity to engage with a new audience and share the transformative impact of music.

Ultimately, the journey through music and creativity is about more than self-expression; it's about fostering kindness towards ourselves and others. It's about creating spaces where honesty, empathy, and emotional health are valued and nurtured. As we navigate life's complexities, let's embrace the power of music to connect, heal, and inspire. At the heart of every melody, lyric, and rhythm lies an opportunity to express our most authentic selves and to extend kindness in its purest form.

ICYMI, here's the video for Barbed Wire - directed and filmed by Gene Sizemore, and winner of the 2023 silver Telly Award for "Best Music Video".
