Music and Intergenerational Inspiration from a Young Person During Covid Times

Music and Intergenerational Inspiration from a Young Person During Covid Times

As we began the new year, I wrote an article about how inspired I was by the incredible tenacity, creativity and courage that I have seen and experienced during the COVID-19 lockdown.

My 22-year-old grandson finished his classes and has now graduated from college (via Zoom), with a degree and goal of composing music for films. He took advantage of the homebound lockdown situation by composing musical pieces which he shared with us and posted on his YouTube channel. During our frequent intergenerational interactions, we discussed how he would benefit from creating a website so that family, friends and other people can see and hear his original compositions. He and his parents have just finished his website and it is now available at www.eliasure.com. Please visit it and enjoy his talent, now on display for all!

Our own family’s daily intergenerational discussions include sharing the values and lessons learned from grandparents and great-grandparents and how they overcame life’s challenges and are a win for the individuals and for society as a whole.

Conversations can be richer and more interesting by varying ages having different life perspectives and experiences which can expose you to new ways of thinking, creativity and compassion.

When older people interact with younger people, it can be really rewarding and invigorating. It is also helpful in increasing brain function because a different part of the brain is being used, getting this generation out of their routine and doing something different.

I wish everyone a Happy Father’s Day on June 20th and say thank you to all of the mentors everywhere that help children to become successful adults with a life of meaning, purpose and opportunities to achieve their goals and desires.

I hope everyone reading this will capture the life story of their father, and your own life journey for your children.
