In March I had the opportunity to emcee Wellbeing at Work World 's NYC Summit.
The opening panel was an inspiring and thought provoking session on the work Reverberation are doing on the wellbeing and performance impact music can have on employees.
As a homage to the ground breaking work they are doing I thought I would revisit the original bard - Shakespeare - and see how what he had to say about music connected with the science driven approach of Reverberation.
Here is my humble effort:
"Given I’m the Conference Bard
Finding Shakespeare’s thoughts on music wasn't hard.
“If music be the food of love play on”
I’m sure all of you have heard that one.
He also invited music to whisper to the weary spirit.
Music improves the mood of all who hear it.
He also claimed it would kill care and grief of heart.
This power of music is off the chart…
It can provoke the good to harm, and make the bad good.
An awesome power if need it you should….
And after studies or experiencing pain,
Music has a positive impact on your brain.
It was ordained to refresh the mind of man,
Reverberation have now proved it can.
But there is more to music than even Shakespeare knew
As Reverberation have shared with you.
It can increase your concentration
When working on a presentation.
Like Caliban it can help you sleep,
Slumber deep without a peep.
It can help you to create
Turning your ideas from good to great.
It can encourage human connection,
Help you with relaxing reflection.
And another thing they did discover
Is it helps those who with dementia suffer.
If your heart rates racing and you can’t think,
Listen to the right music and your beat will sink.
You don’t have to run away and join a band
Just think about the value of and.
There’s nothing you do that music doesn’t improve
So whenever you can get in the groove.
I hope you agree they struck the perfect note
And you like this little verse I wrote"
