On Music :-)
I was about to fall asleep last night when a thought came to my mind. Why is is that so many civilizations from across the world- without any contact with each other- would converge on such similar ideas. From strikingly homogenous moral values, to the prevalence of beautiful artwork, certain ideas seem to be universal hallmarks of the human experience. I know, it might sound like a topic not worth giving much thought, but in the curious state of delirium halfway between waking and sleeping, I decided to pull at the end of the string, and delve deeper.
In business and sales, we are often told to build rapport- to build a connection with someone over some shared belief or motivation. The key is to find just one commonality- one foothold upon which and entire meaningful relationship can be constructed. We all have at least a few things in common! Case in point(The rhythmic sounds of a drumbeat or strings being plucked can be identified by anyone in any culture as music!)

I'm not saying to break the ice in every cold call by asking them if they know what music is :-) , but remember to keep things conversational, friendly, and meaningful no matter how many reaches went to voicemail, how many objections are shot at you, or how bad the weather is.
You need to emphasize that you are there to help, you are on their side, and want to see them succeed! People care about the "I", the "me" if you want to make a good impression, show them you have a real common interest- them! Every decision made when communicating with others builds your reputation- would you rather fade into the background as just another person someone interacts with, or be remembered as the one guy interested in getting to know them?
