Mushfiqur Rahim and Toys-R-Urs Distribute Toys among the Kids in Dhaka Children’s Hospital
Today Toys-R-URs (pronounced as ‘Toys Are Yours’) distributed toys among over 600 children admitted at the Dhaka Children’s Hospital (Sishu Hospital) where most of the children are coming from underprivileged background. Captain of Bangladesh Test Cricket Team, Musfiqur Rahim, inaugurated and actively took part in the simple yet deeply satisfying toy distribution ceremony.
Mushfiqur Rahim, who was visibly elated about the experience, said, “I have never felt so happy and humbled with joy and gratitude before. The happiness of the sick and recovering children after receiving the toys cannot be expressed with words. I thank the Ex-Cadets’ Forum for organising the wonderful campaign that Toys-R-Urs is.”
Ex-Cadets Forum (ECF) – a global platform for ex-cadets of Bangladesh, has undertaken an innovative initiative to bring smiles to thousands of poor and underprivileged children. The initiative called ‘Toys-R-Urs’ (TRY) collects toys through campaigns at corporate, educational institutions and from individuals, then sort and repair them according to gender, age and type of toys and finally distribute the toys to the underprivileged children through different schools and facilities that support these children. Major corporate houses, well-known schools and individuals at Dhaka and outside are enthusiastically taking part in the initiative. OKY-DOKY, a well-known brand for children’s clothing and footwear, is supporting the project.
Fida Haq, the Captain of the ECF Social Responsibility Team said:
“It gives us the ex-cadets tremendous pleasure to see smiles on the faces of so many children at the Shishu Hospital. To have Mushfiqur Rahim with us as the giver of joy to the children is just awesome.”
Tariqul Haque, executive member of ECF SRT, talked about the long term vision of the project, ‘We hope to continue the project next year and onwards. We already have a list of 15 schools and organizations to distribute toys in this year. We are getting wonderful responses from people and different organizations. Hopefully next year, it will be bigger.’
Already as part of the Toys-R-URs project, the ECF Social Responsibility Team (SRT) distributed toys in 4 schools and institutes for underprivileged children. Before last Eid-ul-Fitr, the project distributed toys among the sick children at Dhaka Medical Hospital.

Answer: You can donate old toys, educational toys, gadgets etc to the TRY project. Please make sure they are usable. Sometimes, we get toys that can’t be fixed or reused.
What is the benefit of the project? Why should I care?
Answer:
- The benefits of the project are multi-faceted. The donated toys will not only bring joy to the children but it will also help them to learn more effectively at school through many of the educational toys.
- On the flip side, the donor children will learn about helping and supporting to those who are in need. These children grow to be more compassionate and supportive at a very young age that will make them a better person in future. The parents have to play a vital role to engage their children in the whole donation process and explain the benefits to them.
- If not reused, these unused toys might go to dustbins and eventually will end up at a landfill site causing serious harm to environment. The project enables reuse of these toys and benefit to the environment.
