#Museveni: I always carry a gun, if you start trouble am ready - #Uganda
President Yoweri Museveni also the Commander-in-Chief has advised Uganda People’s Defence Forces [UPDF] and other security personnel to always be on the alert just in case.
The president was meeting 28,000 security personnel from Uganda police, prisons, UPDF and counter terrorism units at Kololo Independence grounds on Saturday.
He praised security agencies for neutralising opposition elements who were trying to cheat in the elections, bribe voters, commit arson, and kill people during the electoral period.
During the thanksgiving ceremony, Museveni lauded security officers for thwarting wicked threats and schemes of killing as well as burning down the city by members of the opposition.
He urged security officers to always be prepared like him.
"I always move with my waterproof jacket and gun, if you start trouble am ready,” the president said.
He added: “Don't be like a mosquito which sucks your blood and forgets that it can be killed.”
Museveni said he will talk to Chief Justice Bart Katureebe on granting of bail to such elements because it causes more trouble.
The president further advised soldiers not to clamour for higher salaries but look for alternative means of survive like joining saccos that give soft loans.
"With high salaries you can't buy weapons and when a war comes, salaries and cars cannot fight,” the president said.
Museveni commended Police for producing their own uniforms but wants them to use Ugandan-made fabric and not imported material from China.
“I have directed Prisons to start producing cotton for the industries that are coming. They will need enough cotton.”
The president said he had also National Agricultural Research Organisation [NARO] to utilise army land to fatten cows to supply the abattoirs with enough cows.
He said during Pope Francis’ visit to Uganda, the vicar told him that he observed that "[Ugandans] are happy and enthusiastic people".
