Murdoch go back to America! We do want you here in Australia as broadcasting disinformation is bad for business.
Rupert Murdoch's Fox News has threatened legal action against the ABC – striking back against Four Corners for this week's exposé on Fox's intimate relationship with Trump.?
The two-part program from ABC veteran journalist Sarah Ferguson has clearly hit a nerve?– on top of legal threats, the Murdoch Press here in Australia has published more than?45 hit pieces?on the ABC in just two days.
But this attempt to discredit the ABC must be seen for what it is:?a desperate attempt to deflect attention away from Murdoch's plans to import Fox News' destructive formula straight to Australia.
Just this month, Murdoch launched his first Australian free-to-air 'news' channel?– the Australian version of Fox News streaming directly into millions of living rooms in regional communities. And with an election on the horizon, there's no doubt Fox's ultra-right wing formula will sow division, climate denialism, and racism in our communities.?Just like Fox did under Trump.
But this is?exactly?why our movement exists.?Because while politicians are either too scared of the Murdoch Press and its lackeys – or in its pocket – GetUp has the unique power to counter its corrosive influence.?On all fronts.
From taking on its advertisers to exposing the extent of its climate denialism, we've built a national movement that resists the Murdoch Press at every turn.?
We'll push for critical legislative reform to wind back laws that have allowed the Murdoch Press to become so powerful. We'll run polling and focus groups in the communities that Sky News is desperately trying to reach, and use it to send a message to the very networks allowing it to broadcast disinformation. And we'll supercharge the campaign for a free, fair and diverse media landscape – including a strong and independent ABC.
the fight against the Murdoch Press and for a fair, flourishing, and just democracy.
By joining the GetUp Crew, you're equipping this movement not just for today or tomorrow – but for the long haul.
?Right now the Murdoch Press is under more scrutiny than ever before.?Sky News was just smacked with a 7-day YouTube ban,4?their right-wing commentators like Alan Jones are due to face a Senate Inquiry any day now,?and the ABC is investigating the sheer depth of their influence.

Already more than 50,000 TV viewers?have demanded WIN and Southern Cross Media take Sky News' disinformation off the air.?Why? Because Sky is only able to reach its new audience of millions thanks to a partnership with these two networks. We know they're listening, but now we need to step it up a notch.
Broadcasting disinformation is bad for business. And with polling and focus groups that lift the lid on the Murdoch Press' pervasive influence, we will mobilise the very communities Sky is trying to reach.
A Senate Inquiry is probing Sky News' disinformation and dominance right now?– it is the best chance we've got to push for legislative change that would put a cap on the Murdoch's Press' power, and help local, independent media not just survive but thrive. With just three months until the Inquiry concludes, we'll be throwing everything we have to get key Senators on side with real reform – with the help of political strategists, academics, and everyday people who are demanding a fairer media.
It's a lot of work to counter the influence of a massive corporation like the Murdoch Press.?
The Murdoch Press' modus operandi is to dress up opinion as news, profiting off a sensationalist style of racism, climate denialism, and disinformation.
They're the antithesis to making progress on the issues Australians movement care about: fairness and freedom for all.
We know taking on this media empire is going to take an unwavering commitment – average Australians will be fighting fit and ready to tackle this media giant, no matter what they throw at us.
