We believe that cooperation will be essential to achieve genuine sustainability in fashion. So here's some news in the sustainable fashion field that recently caught our eye!


#1 NEW EU CAMPAIGN RESET THE TREND #refashionow

The European Commission has launched a campaign designed to educate young consumers about the impacts of fast fashion.

They are urging people to join the campaign and ReSet the trend by helping raise awareness about sustainable fashion across Europe. #2 4 NATIONS UNITE TO FIGHT TEXTILE CHEMICAL POLLUTION

The governments of?Bangladesh,?Indonesia,?Pakistan?and?Vietnam?are supporting the Reducing Uses and Releases of Chemicals of Concern in the Textile Sector initiative,phased in over five years, that will tackle chemical pollution in textile production.

Created by the United Nations Environmental Programm (UNEP) with funding and support from the Global Environment Facility , The Basel and Stockholm Conventions Regional Centre for Southeast Asia and The Natural Resources Defence Council, the initiative will provide technical support and tools for small and medium-sized enterprises and manufacturers to improve their knowledge and management of hazardous substances, guide them to manage risks to workers and—eventually—eradicate the worst chemical offenders from their operations.

Vestiaire Collective is also backing The Or Foundation Stop Waste Colonialism Campaign that's calling for Extended Producer Responsibility for textiles that reflects the cost of waste management, is globally accountable, and leads to disclosure targets for circularity, with the aim to promote a substantial reduction in new clothing production. #4 FABRIC INNOVATOR ALPINE GROUP JOINS FASHION FOR GOOD

Fabric innovator and apparel manufacturer Alpine Group whose brand partners include The North Face , American Eagle Outfitters Inc. and Under Armour , has joined the global innovation platform Fashion for Good as an ‘Affiliate Innovation Partner’.

The partnership will enable them to explore the commercialisation of innovative technologies that reduce environmental impact.

Fashion for Good is also expanding their?Sorting for Circularity?initiative to America. The 18-month initiative, which the Amsterdam-based sustainable innovation platform announced Tuesday, seeks to take the most “representative snapshot” of?textile waste?composition generated in the United States and, in so doing, establish the business case for textile-to-textile recycling?in the country.


#5 PANGAIA AND EVRNU'S RECYCLED DENIM BREAKTHROUGH

US textile innovation startup Evrnu?, SPC joined forces with PANGAIA a fashion brand that's pioneering next generation materials, to create?the first denim product to be made entirely from Nucycl. This is a lyocell fibre?created from pre- and post-consumer cotton waste. It's a material that has the strength and tenacity of polyester without the use of petroleum based materials and at the end of its life it can be recycled again into a fibre of the exact same quality.
