Mumsnet users on Reform: "If mainstream politics leave people cold, where are they expected to go to?"

Our latest poll of Mumsnetters shows a big leap in support for Reform.? When asked who they plan to vote for at the next election, 25% of users cited Nigel Farage's party - putting them level with Labour.? The Tories clocked up 12%, with the Lib Dems on 9%.???

Reform's support amongst Mumsnet users has nearly doubled since June 2024, when we ran our last voting intention poll, which saw them on 13%.??

Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your view, Farage has the knack of understanding what matters to people and articulating it well.

Interestingly, despite the results of the poll, Reform supporters on site don't seem to be as vocal as their Labour counterparts.? One user had a theory as to why.

You may find people are just keeping their opinions to themselves. If it is clear you support Labour and hate Reform then you may find your friends keep their real feelings to themselves. Debate is not encouraged anymore - we rush to cancel people.

?Those Reform supporters that are happy to talk about their reasoning often express their frustration with 'mainstream' politics.

Labour make everything worse by refusing to listen to any frustrations the average person has with mass migration. My day to day life is negatively affected by mass immigration but if I voice this I am called racist. This makes me frustrated with mainstream politics and tempted to turn to parties like Reform. It’s frustrating and I don’t want to be in this position but anyone who doesn’t live in poor, neglected parts of the UK have no idea of the realities. I wish I had the luxury of living in a left wing privileged bubble.

As as one user pointed out, although it takes time for any new government to make a difference, if voters already feel pessimistic or disillusioned it's a much bigger job to convince them that anything is changing for the better.

?I can understand why Labour supporters feel like six months isn't a long enough shot at the wheel to demonstrate their competence at running the country but, what they fail to acknowledge, is that those who don't have their optimism are waiting on any evidence at all that they won't make things drastically worse.
