Mums to be given misinformation about folic acid and tongue tie

Rumors have it that...

There is a link to women taking folic acid later in pregnancy raises the risk of tongue-tie in newborns.

Only a third of women take folic acid while trying to get pregnant, despite official NHS advice stating that women should take 400mg daily at least 3 months before conception.

Professor Nicholas Ward from London’s Wolfson’s Institute stated in the press yesterday that “there is no scientific basis for stating that folic acid supplements cause tongue tie”

The poor uptake of Folic acid results in hundreds of babies being born with Spina bifida, sometimes accompanied with hydrocephalus (water on the brain) every year.

Spina Bifida is a neural tube defect that affects the central nervous system movement, bowels, bladder and the brain.
