Multiplication of leadership influence

One of the challenges that leaders face is to lead leaders, and not just followers. Leaders who lead followers increase their groups, while leaders who lead leaders multiply their impact. The differences in the focus of each are:

Leaders who lead followers:

  • wants to feel people need them
  • concentrate on the weaknesses of their people
  • focus on the bottom 20% priorities
  • have good influence
  • keep on growing
  • spend time with their people
  • asks for vague commitments
  • give everybody the same guidance
  • clearly identify immediate needs
  • make an impact on their own generation.

Leaders who lead leaders:

  • knows who will succeed them
  • focus on the strengths of their people
  • focus on the top 20% priorities
  • have inspirational influence
  • help others to grow
  • invest time in others
  • insist on full commitment
  • give the guidance that individuals require
  • clearly identifies long term needs
  • makes an impact on the next generation.
