MULTIPLE INTERVIEW STYLES

You can enhance your interviewing results by tailoring your responses to align with the interviewer. ?A results-driven, fact-based, task-oriented interviewer will not respond well to a candidate with stories of collaboration, teamwork and theoretical trends.

?

Here are some thoughts based on the four contrasts from the Myers-Briggs matrix.? Practice with others to hone your skills:

·??????? Extravert – Interviewers are more talkative and energetic.? Engage them with lively conversation.? Share stories and experiences with enthusiasm.? Show interest in them.

·??????? Introvert – Be concise by giving clear and direct answers without embellishments.? Give them time to consider your answers. Expect a more reserved reaction.

·??????? Sensing – Concentrate on concrete details and practical applications of experiences. Use specific examples of results to show your skills and achievements.

·??????? Intuitive – Interested in broader ideas and future possibilities.? Discuss longer-term goals or innovative approaches to issues. Relate your experiences to new trends.

·??????? Thinking – Values logic and objectivity.? Use facts and data to support your answers. Focus on the tasks without getting too personal.

·??????? Feeling – Priority is harmony, a lack of conflict, and positive teamwork.? Show empathy and consideration to others.? Highlight how you used collaboration in decision-making.

·??????? Judging – Show organization, structure, and timeliness in your responses. Provide examples of decisiveness, reliability, and project efficiency.

·??????? Perceiving – Give examples of your flexibility and adaptability.? Show openness to change and how you handled unexpected challenges in the past.

?

One interviewing style does not fit all situations.? When you modify your interview responses effectively, you making a greater positive impression.? But first, you need to understand how to best match the style of the interviewer.

?

Another way to assess the style of the interviewer is to look for one of 4 basic types:

·??????? The Charmer – Wants to get you to agree with their direction through persuasion

·??????? The Challenger – Wants to?cross-examination you to get their questions answered

·??????? The Examiner - Wants their check list of skills/experiences completed; one, two, three?

·??????? The Harmonizer –?Wants a team player with no conflicts, assuming you can do the job.

?

No matter what type of interviewer, the key takeaway is not to be totally consistent for each interview with different people.? Adapt your style to come as close to the interviewer as possible. There’s another reason to assess the interviewing style of the organization.? These are the people you will be working with day to day.?Their interviewing style is an insight into their management style.

?

What you experience as a candidate is close to what you’ll experience as an employee.
