??? At the NAWDP (National Association of Workforce Development Professionals) Business Services Academy conference in Maryland in August 2024, I learned the following information from Katie Brown, PhD during her session, "Everybody Wins: Driving Inclusion and Economic Opportunity with a Multilingual Workforce."
Did you know?
Immigrant and refugee learners represent nearly a quarter of all community college students, driving over 40% of adult education enrollments in English courses.
Astonishingly, only 4% of adult English learners in the U.S. receive adequate language support. (Source: EnGen)
Her journey to empower the English Learners started when she was 20 years old and was engaged in empowering Migrant workers in an Apple Orchard.
Dr. Katie Brown, EnGen’s Chief Education Officer and Founder, holds a PhD in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) from the University of Maryland and has over 20 years of experience in applied language research.
She founded EnGen to assist the 96% of the Immigrants, Refugees and speakers of other languages in the United States who don't have access to English Instructions. The insights shared were invaluable, deepening my understanding of supporting English learners in today’s workforce.
I also had the opportunity to interview Tadd Wamester, Director, Partnership Development at EnGen, and discuss their skills-focused, virtual English-language learning platform:

6 个月The intersection of language acquisition and organizational culture presents a fascinating challenge. Effective integration hinges on fostering an environment where learners feel safe to experiment and receive constructive feedback. Microlearning strategies can be particularly impactful in this context, allowing for bite-sized learning experiences that are easily digestible and relevant to daily tasks. However, it's crucial to consider the diverse needs of learners and tailor approaches accordingly. Ultimately, success depends on a holistic approach that encompasses both pedagogical best practices and a supportive organizational climate. You talked about microlearning strategies in your post. Could you elaborate on how you would incorporate gamification elements into these microlearning modules to enhance learner engagement, particularly for technical concepts like data analysis or cybersecurity? Imagine a scenario where employees need to learn about identifying phishing emails how would you technically use microlearning and gamification to create an engaging and effective training experience in this specific context?
