Choice
When I first embarked on my writing journey, I saw publishing as a destination, a tangible mark of achievement. Initially, I was drawn to science fiction, captivated by the endless possibilities it offered. But as my journey progressed, I decided to explore the realms of fantasy.
Among my collection of story ideas included tales of innocence, darkness and faithful companions. Deciding upon the tale of a child’s innocence, a feline companion, and a relentless antagonist, Linked was born. It was a moment of revelation, as this single story quickly evolved into a series. Choosing to shift from one genre to another, I realized that, as writers, our purpose is not merely to stay within defined boundaries, but to venture into the unexplored territories of imagination.

Mindset
I like to think at the core of being a multi-genre author beats the heart of a rebel creative explorer. We all stand at the crossroads of genres, not as captives of a single narrative, but as artisans of possibility.
My journey, once bound by the gravitational pull of science fiction, found a second outlet in the realm of fantasy. However, my creative voyage didn’t stop there. With a passion for sharing my photography and daily motivational posts, I ventured into non-fiction. Soon, the realms of young adult fiction beckoned. Then I picked up some new tools for writers and wrote a book to help my fellow wordsmiths. Through it all, I discovered that each genre is a portal to different dimensions in storytelling.

Learning
Transitioning from one genre to another is like embarking on a new quest. A quest we all take that leads to the heart of storytelling’s infinite realms. While science fiction was familiar terrain, fantasy and young adult demanded a new lens.
Transitioning between genres wasn’t just about changing the scenery; it was about altering my perception. In the realm of science fiction, I had woven tales that traversed the cosmos and unraveled the threads of a distant future. To embrace fantasy, I had to cast aside technological limits and introduce magic to my worlds. Young adult fiction taught me to seek uncharted territories of self-discovery and boundless dreams. Crafting motivational posts became daily lessons on the importance of sharing thoughts with great impact and few words.

Creative Fire
The joy of being a multi-genre author lies in the wellspring of inspiration that surrounds us. In the tapestry of genres, hues of creativity are both vast and vivid, each offering a unique palette of emotions, tones, and styles. It’s like standing before a canvas, concentrating on the blank space waiting to be adorned with the strokes of an ever-changing spectrum of colors.
One day, I craft heartfelt inspirational quotes, a whisper of encouragement to brighten someone’s day out in the world. Another day, I dive headlong into realms of an urban fantasy thriller, where mystery and suspense unravels at every turn. The next day, I enter the tale of a spaceship captain, fighting to save his crew from certain doom. This dynamic dance between genres keeps my imagination agile, my creativity vibrant, and my storytelling prowess versatile. Providing fuel for our creative passions is essential and I’ve found the creative fire burning across genres is constant.
Cross-Pollination
A great benefit to following a multi-genre path is akin to cultivating a garden of ideas. Flowers from one genre pollinate the possibilities of another. Intricate world-building that characterizes a fantasy novel can extend to my Sci-Fi endeavors or breathe life into my young adult tales.
Picture this: A mystical realm where castles rise against starlit skies and magic is part of every city. The sky is suddenly void of light. No stars, moon or sun. Magic is quickly used to preserve life in this world thrown into chaos. Now, I change genres and see a distant galaxy where a weapon of dark matter has just been used in a war. Each tale faces the same threat as darkness threatens to end all life. One genre knows the cause of the threat to all life, using technology to undo the destruction of the dark matter weapon while the other genre preserves life with spells, rituals and powerful sorcery. The seeds of world-building take root and grow, adapting to the nuances of each genre, branching out to touch the very essence of what makes each story unique. Even when the tales do not cross, the inspiration from one to another is ever-present.
Even when I venture out as a photographer and capture images of landscapes, dragonflies or flowers, the images all tell a story. Playful birds can become heroes, landscapes can become the backdrop to an epic adventure and the reflections of a pond can provide a glimpse into a mirror realm that can become part of a Sci-Fi tale, a fantasy intro or a child’s dream. When we explore multiple genres, each world brightens the other.

Evolution
Just as the seasons change, so does the landscape of storytelling. As I explored the rich tapestries of different genres, I discovered hidden dimensions of myself, layers I never knew existed. With each genre explored, my voice underwent a metamorphosis. It wasn’t just the characters in each series that evolved; it was the methods I employed to tell each story. The essence of my personal expressions adapted and matured. With each new book and genre, I found myself painting with a broader palette of emotions, weaving intricate narratives, and portraying worlds in ways I hadn’t anticipated.
This is part of the magic in embracing the multi-genre path. It’s a perpetual quest for growth, a voyage of self-discovery. Just as our protagonists overcome challenges and evolve, so do we, the guardians of their tales.
