Reliance Industries Ltd's Chairman, Mukesh Ambani, recently emphasized the importance of the business community in building a stronger and more inclusive India. He made these remarks at an event organized by the Gems and Jewellery Exports Promotion Council (GJEPC). Ambani expressed confidence that the industry would achieve its target of USD 100 billion in exports in the coming decades.
Ambani praised the gems and diamonds industry for its significant contributions to India's economy, including reaching USD 40 billion in exports and creating over 5 million jobs. He highlighted the industry's growth from humble beginnings, particularly mentioning the efforts of people from Palanpur. Ambani, whose family roots trace back to Kathiawad, also spoke of potential collaborations between Kathaiwadis and Palanpuris.
Ambani mentioned his daughter-in-law, Shloka Mehta, who comes from a family involved in the gems and jewellery sector. He expressed gratitude for her presence, noting her warmth and wisdom.
At the event, Mukesh Ambani emphasized the collective responsibility of the Indian business community to contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India. He commended the gems and jewellery industry for consistently being among the top exporters from India.
Ambani encouraged the industry to embrace the 'Make in India' initiative, highlighting its potential to represent Indian design and talent globally. Despite challenges, including a drop in exports in recent years, Ambani remains optimistic about the industry's future.
Russell Mehta, Managing Director of Rosy Blue India, received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony.
The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), established in 1966, plays a crucial role in promoting the interests of the industry. With around 9,600 members, the GJEPC continues to support the growth of the gems and jewellery sector.
