In my previous article (above) our hero (played by the late George Trachilis) arrives at the United Nations in New York at the request of his long time friend Karl Wadensten, POTUS.
It is not commonly known, but it was Karl Wadensten from Vibco Vibrators who coined the term "fix what bugs you." Today is it a well-known starting point for those who want to understand Lean. Way to go Karl!
The 7 wastes are also known as the 7 deadly sins. By identifying exactly what bugs you and classifying it into one of these categories it may help you understand whether the waste is a symptom of the root cause of the problem.
By going after the waste of overproduction you can effectively eliminate most of the waste by dealing with the source of the waste. Not the symptom that is caused by overproduction.
In my early days, it was all about the 5 principles of Lean Thinking and how to implement tools and systems that eliminate waste. Today, it is about Lean Leadership. It is about creating leaders at all levels in the organization to sustain the improvements that are made. It is also about linking processes together so that overproduction is less of a factor.
Enjoy the book Developing Lean Leaders at All Levels, and if you would like a copy of these 7 wastes in poster format, then email me and I will reply with a jpeg of each waste as a poster to use with my blessing.
