I am delighted today to have delivered a masterclass on ‘Finding purpose in an uncertain world’. This is more important than ever before because many of the things that previously gave our life meaning are off the table, we have lost some of our ability to control the important things around us and many are finding it difficult to sustain motivation. Working remotely can also cause a reduced sense of belonging. Indisputably, it is clear from the research that purpose and meaning have been found to be the deepest drivers of well-being there are. Where we put our focus, the meaning we give to what happens to us at work and in other aspects of our life, is more under our control than we imagine. Today the masterclass was successful in sharing how we can be guided in our thinking with strategies and tools which can impact positively on the way we feel and how we find meaning, fulfillment, and purpose. I shared my research-based tool on how to find moments of joy and fulfillment every day.
There is a mass of research that shows people function best when they have a clear sense of purpose and this can improve one’s overall feeling of wellbeing, physical health, resilience and happiness. Leaders often don’t realise purpose is the biggest driver for discretionary effort and impacts all performance indicators.
