Much-loved receptionist calls last drinks
Australian Hotels Association NSW
The voice of the hotel industry
After a decade and a half of loyal service, AHA NSW has said farewell to its much-loved receptionist Cheryl Jones.
Chez manned the front desk since April 2006. ?
For more than 16 years she has been the Association’s first point of contact with the public; the first voice they hear on the phone and the first and the last face anyone sees on the way into the Macquarie Street head office.
She was the gatekeeper who deftly handled the loonies on the phone and errant delivery men in the lift.
She was the friendly ear for members who just wanted to vent and a great source of wisdom for members who needed help but were not sure where to get it.
Her quick and often dark humour made her a favourite among visiting publicans and her wild and cackling laugh would reverberate throughout the entire office.
If she wasn’t sneaking a smoke on the balcony, Cheryl was always at her post.
And she loved nothing more than when visitors would stop, lean on her counter and have a chat.

She had an undying passion for Rod Stewart.?When she was in charge of the downstairs music, “Have I told you lately that I love you,” and “Sailing” were on high rotation.

Cheryl was not one to wallow in sentimentality and she was notoriously hard to photograph.
Despite being present at almost every AHA function at Macquarie Street for the last decade she managed to avoid every photographer.
A farewell lunch was held for her on Friday, 31 March 2022 at Verandah bar. Chez finished up with her favourite drop, Baileys on ice.
Cheryl said she is looking forward to spending more time with her children and grandchild and also plans to travel the world.?

2 年I still remember the first time I met Cheryl. She told me she was going to grow old disgracefully and it's been a life goal of mine ever since! I wish you all the best at being disgraceful in your retirement.
