MTU hosts Inaugural Gas Forum 2018
Last month Ad Hoc Marine Designs had the honour being invited as a guest speaker at MTU's Inaugural Gas Forum in Singapore. With a growing interest in Windfarms and Crew Boats to service them, I gave a presentation on the current state of the art - with respect to the design of Windfarm CTVs in UK/EU. It was in addition to the Gas Forum later that day owing to similar synergies with the Windfarm sector in the UK/EU. I would also like to thank MTU for being such excellent hosts.
From MTU Singapore:-
The Commercial Marine team in MTU Asia organized the Inaugural Gas Forum (IGF) 2018 in Singapore on 4 October 2018. More than 115 multinational participants attended the event, including research institutes, owners, builders and designers as well as a port authority and a national oil company. Among the guests were representatives from Austal, Ad Hoc Marine Designs, BMT Group and Bureau Veritas, who specially flew in for this event.
Driven by the global transition to a low-carbon economy and speared by the impending emission regulations changes, there is an expected increase in use of LNG as a marine fuel. While LNG propelled vessels in Asia currently accounts only for a small proportion of the market, there will be an increased growth expected in the coming years with changing market conditions and infrastructural improvement. MTU wants to contribute to the growing conversation on LNG at an early stage and pioneer the drive towards widespread adoption of LNG in the marine space.
This forum was a change from a typical product driven internal workshop to one that involved marine stakeholders. Product presentation in the forum was kept at an optimal level and sufficient time was provided for the audience to interact and debate with the expert panelist consisting of Petronas, Bureau Veritas (class), BMT (designer), kfW (bank), Rolls-Royce Marine and MTU.
The event was well-attended with numerous positive feedback on the content and the refreshing concept. Many participants were already looking forward to the next MTU Forum in 2019.
“I felt that MTU succeeded in leaving a strong impression within the industry that we too can provide leadership on relevant topics equivalent to the like of other marine giants.” Chew Xiang Yu, MTU Asia, Marine and Offshore.
