Bills, Pills and Protests!!

Ever since the Farm Bills-2020, were introduced in both the houses of parliament and with technicalities of “passing” them, the “politics” of bills or bills of politics are evident to literate large. However after having read these bills line by line, I stand today confused, worried and terribly saddened to see the “protests” or if I may say “politics of protests”  for reasons or questions or observations to name few: 

Meanwhile, Let me please express that I am not any “..ist” or from any “…isms” or represent any political party !! I am independent farmer! ( farmer who holds no lands!)

1. Since past few days across mainstream media and social media like whatsapp, lot of opinions are floating around, some are seeing between lines of bills, some want to see through. The elected and non- electable , the intellectuals , Social welfare organizations, Sympathizers , Apolitical and Political, Unions and opinion makers , Thinkers and inkers , Media and mediocre , representative groups , Trade associations , the celebrities and stars, almost from every sphere these bills are being interpreted in their own way. Some playing with words either with their literary prowess or lack of it and few who haven't seen farm in their lifetime!!

2.   Confused, because, is it the intent or is it the content or is it the interpretation or is it the communication issue ?

 3.  Worried, because how much can a marginal farmer understand appreciate these bills in letter and spirit when explained in vernacular? These Bills are not tangibles like any other schemes, subsidies or freebies to touch feel and experience over- night! We all do know how many farmers can understand these bills literally and the relevance of bills on their livelihood and who or which are the influencing factors on farmers in forming an opinion on bills.

 4.  Worried, as I am to understand that the current Protests are being “used”/ ”Misused” by few! Seems it All for free and free for all and any one can join the protests citing "common cause". Not surprisingly, the “unorganized” become so swift and so well organized in crafting the protests for a  “common cause”!! Yes I know that we all know those "customized causes"

5.   Saddened , because 545 members in Loksabha and 250 from Rajyasabha that’s 790 from legislative, may not have one single opinion on the bills and must have debated enough on pros and cons. And once passed and are constitutionally valid, then why a need to protest and have these members reached to their respective constituencies and endeavored to understand the ground situation?

6.   Saddened, also for the fact that, if when asked for an opinion or interpretation of bills, you are quickly concluded as PRO or ANTI or Neutral /Diplomatic or accused of not taking a “stand” These are very subjective issues and can’t be answered or concluded like MCQ question paper.

7.   Saddened, also for the fact that why Gov. does take cognizance or heed to hear, only if “protests / dharnas/rallies are conducted close to corridors of power? otherwise may not . By the way for a common man, to protest or express dissent, doesn’t require any effort but self-motivation. And to “organize”, it does require lots of effort. When one sees some commonalities with organizer’s or influencer’s or a group and in good faith, people may participate in such rallies or protests. However the connect between the Organized and organizers and the art of organizing protests /rallies /dharma’s at times, could be much more than meets the eye!

If the moot point being referred to as MSP or MRP! I see as Media State and Public have very responsible role to play and observe Maximum Restrain from Politics.

MP’s and MLA’s and “Farmers” from respective constituency may please have open and constructive talk in letter and spirit and take it to the Gov. dispensation for tangible outcome!!

With absolutely no second thought on right to protest, I only wish if there could be better ways and means of protesting without causing harm in any form to anyone directly or indirectly including to good selves who are protesting while braving the rough weather! both from climate and few minds with hidden agenda!

As always and after all being in profession (farming) of hope, let us hope for the best at the earliest!! May good sense and wisdom prevail upon all, specially the Silent Majority to rise from deep slumber!
