According to recent reports, authorities now believe that the suspect behind last week’s “terror-related” incident at the Naval Air Station (NAS) in Corpus Christi, TX, identified as 20-year-old Adam Salim Alsahli of Corpus Christi, TX, was working alone. Following the May 21 shooting at NAS Corpus Christi, which left one injured and the suspect dead, law enforcement officials had reported that they were seeking a possible second person of interest who was believed to be at-large, and advise the public in the area to remain aware and report any suspicious activity. At approximately 6:15am local time on Wednesday, May 21, Alshali attempted to drive through the base’s north security gate before being stopped by vehicle barriers. Alsahli then got out of the car and opened fire, striking and wounding a member of the Naval Security Forces. Alsahli was then reportedly killed by a security member during the exchange of gunfire. Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had determined that the incident was “terror-related” after “examining social media posts they believe the shooter made expressing support for extremist groups,” including al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). According to reports, Alsahli was a Syrian-born American citizen and a student at a local community college in Corpus, Christi, TX. Officials have not indicated if Alsahli was previously known to authorities.
