Authorities in the UK announced yesterday that a stabbing incident that occurred on Saturday in the town of Reading, which left three dead and six injured, is being investigated as a terrorist incident. On Saturday, 25-year-old Khairi Saadallah, a Libyan asylum-seeker living in Reading, stabbed numerous people at random at Forbury Gardens in Reading’s town center. Authorities stated that they began receiving calls about the incident shortly after 7:00pm local time, and apprehended Saadallah within five minutes. The Head of Counter Terrorism Policing, Neil Basu, stated that Saadallah remains in custody and is believed to have acted alone. Earlier reports also stated that the attack was tied to a Black Lives Matter Event, but authorities made it clear that the event had concluded hours before the attack. Counterterrorism officials have urged members of the public to come forward if they witnessed the attack and to refrain from sharing any images or videos on social media.
