According to reports, 69-year-old Thomas Huskey was charged last week with three counts each of possession of a destructive device and manufacture of a destructive device, after authorities found several hundred explosive devices in his possession. At approximately 12:00pm local time Tuesday, the Portland Police Bureau responded to several reports of explosives being thrown from a vehicle in the area of Northeast 6th Avenue and Northeast Davis Street. Upon further investigation, officers were able to identify Huskey as a possible suspect. During a search of Huskey's apartment, police located several hundred explosive devices, which were “similar to large fireworks.” Following Huskeys arrest, members of the Metropolitan Explosive Disposal Unit with help from Portland Fire and Rescue responded and safely gathered the explosives. According to reports, Huskey is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday afternoon. Although Tuesday’s incident appears to be an isolated event, recent reports have surfaced that the Portland Police Bureau was investigating another similar situation in neighboring counties days earlier. These incidents comes in the midst of a dynamic threat environment regarding the accelerating pace of improved explosive devices (IED’s), and the potential for such IED’s to be used for nefarious purposes.
