According to reports, 54-year-old Pedro P. Cheng of White Plains, NY, was arrested by authorities on Tuesday morning, after making a terrorist threat to a local COVID-19 command center. Official reports say local police responded to 145 Huguenot Street in New Rochelle after a “terroristic threat” was made to the location via telephone on Monday evening. According to reports, Cheng called the office building, which houses the Westchester County Department of Health and said he was “going to blow up the building” with everyone inside.
Following the call, the building was put on lockdown and was searched by police dogs as a precaution. Upon further investigation, authorities were able to identify Cheng as the caller, and arrested him. Official court documents say Cheng was arraigned in Westchester County Court on a felony charge of making a terroristic threat, however, a State Supreme Court Judge was forced to release Cheng due to New York State’s new bail-reform laws. At this time, Cheng is scheduled to appear before Westchester County Court on Tuesday, May 5.
