It has been a relatively long time since I was astonished by my first face-to-face encounter with Mr. R in our plant.
The amazement continues, by the way.
Before that,
there were several virtual meetings through (the teams).
His very clear style of speaking and his direct way of identifying problems and determining the root causes were very interesting to me.
His wise tone of voice with his authentic American accent also had an impact.
At first, I thought Mr. R was the usual character found in all workplaces.
He is an expert and wise and just criticizes everything, and that's all.
It was incomplete idea, I thought.
When introducing myself in the first meeting, I saw a man (I think) in his seventies, his back was straight and I could barely catch him in the field!
He told me that he has been working for about 42 years, that is, before I was born.
now, he holds the position of a senior manager, and carries a pipewrinch and a spanner.
He close and opens here and there, and climbs everything in the plant, and talks about the valve that did not open, and what is obstructing the flow of material.
You will find him in the central control room talking about the logical connection and the mechanism of work of DCS.
He explains the concept of Safety and talks about chemical reactions, holds meetings, makes the plan and strategy, creates tracking tables, talks about values, vision and indicators, and if implementation begins, he does not say go and do it, but rather he says let’s go, guys, let’s do it!!
Then he precedes us!
I saw him talking to someone (a fresh graduate) with care, respect and listening.
He responds to any question or request from anyone.
I saw him speaking to senior positions in a professional and practical manner (without flattery or showmanship).
In fact,
I do not believe in comparisons, especially at work.
There is no room for comparison, as each person has his own path, circumstances, luck, and time.

But something strong pushed me to compare the two lifestyles.
How did Mr. R maintain his good health during all these years?
He doesn't smoke, and I've never seen him take medication.
What are the values implanted within him that drive him to loyalty and dedication after all these years?
What ideas and principles has he embraced for 40 years?
How is he still passionate about work? Passionate about details?
How does he still pay so much attention?
He doesn't claim to know everything!
Sometimes he answers that he doesn't know when he really doesn't know.
He calls for searching together for solutions.
amazing !!
By looking into his eyes, I see a history worth documenting.
It aroused my great curiosity and many questions.
How can I gain what can be gained from it?
How can I pass this on to my family and my seven children?
I will not hide from you, Mr. R was my case that I study, and my role model that I follow.
I'm not the same person (before/after) meeting him,,
I admit that I was greatly affected, and I rearranged my papers, priorities, and even my outlook on life.
And so do real people in the lives of others.
Your influence may extend to generations after you.
Advice: If you meet someone like Mr. R in your professional or personal life, do not waste time and seize the opportunity to know/see how.
