Mr. 'Pora'Joy: An unexceptional proverbial crybaby
The world has seen its fair share of spoiled and entitled brats, especially the likes of Mr. Joy. Whose effort to cartel support in the name of his mommy and granddaddy has now entered the realm of lunacy.?
Mr. Joy entered politics with a silver platter, after his mother won the election of 2008, he got a cushy job in the role of his mother’s advisor. He was the face of Digital Bangladesh which the youth at that time resonated with. Yet from very early moments, people could easily recognize the flaws he had, especially in the speaking and relatability department because after all Mr. Joy had a textbook face of a bourgeois politician who did not earn what he had got. Nonetheless, Mr. Joy did succeed in his mission to spread broadband internet to almost every corner of this nation which he will gladly boast about because in this political culture, doing one’s job is a rarity in itself.?
Mr. Joy soon showed that all of Harvard and UT Arlington failed to inspire in him the ideals of the western democracies. He along with the newly grown goons quickly started the process of targeting editors, journalists and critiques. The lunacy of targeting Mahfuz Anam, using the spineless intellectual class for reporting a story which every mainstream news did, was another instance of a crybaby’s attempt to make his mommy proud. In his infamous Facebook post of 20161, he demanded the trial of Mahfuz Anam for treason, because we all know in a healthy democracy, the trail of a news story, no matter how inaccurate or of ill intent it may be, is not subject to prosecution under normal defamation laws, but subject to high treason. Maybe this is an exception that Bangladesh could allow because the colonial mentality of superior family DNA reigns true in Mr. Joy’s imaginary world. Magically, after the Facebook status of 20161 lawsuits propped up left and right. The New York Times called it “an unusual confession”2, because The Daily Star editor simply told the courts that “yes”, he did print the corruption story, and so did other newspapers, and It was not an isolated report exclusively published by his paper. Ironically, the caretaker government Mr. Joy, so massively hated, was never put on trial by his beloved mommy rather she kept the people responsible at bay and gave them luxurious ambassadorial jobs abroad.?

In recent events, when Mr. Joy was confronted with the reality that Gen-Z does not really care about the lineage of any political face, he might have fainted for all we know. His thoughts and political capabilities were fully on display when at first his interviews showed a disgust towards the people3, he inadvertently wished the people more suffering. He touted the future of Bangladesh to be like Syria and Pakistan3. This little insecure guy unfortunately forgot the golden rule of politics which is that you must maintain your narrative no matter how stupid it might seem. Steering back to reality from any political rhetoric does not suit a politician at all, rather it makes them look stupid and impotent. Maybe after his mommy scolded him a bit more, he realized his mistakes and is now changing his tune to project strength and unity within the party. Although he is not doing a good enough job because the edibles he takes are not quite enough to make his eyes project compassion and trustworthiness. Mr. Joy is now the flagbearer of conspiracy theories. Everyday he does 50 interviews and tells the same old story only adjusted by what his mommy advises him. Now the latest theory is that his almighty mother did not resign, rather she fled very quickly which made the resignation quite difficult4. Give us a break. You really expect us to believe that your mommy could not even muster up the effort to sign a few papers because she was so hated that she had to flee very quickly to save her life? Oh! Maybe this time Joy boy is telling the truth, who knows, who cares!
The desperation and hatred this little boy possesses is so obvious. All his life he has been fed a colonial lie that just because his granddad did something commendable, it gives his family a license to do whatever they like. It is time for Bangladesh to say no to dynastic bullshitters, and to put Mr. ‘Pora’Joy in his place, a place worse than jail, reality.?
