"Knock, knock knock!"
I wasn't expecting anybody. Who could it be? I unlock the door and open it a crack.
I see a non-descript man. I shut the door, he's been here before.
"Knock, knock, knock!". They are firmer this time. I sigh, going to be one of those days.
I open the door wide enough to let the old friend in.
He strides past and makes himself at home.
"You've cleaned this dump up." I half smile. He continues in his monotone voice. "Nice to see you."
I wish I could say the same. I don't care for Mr. Grey. He comes into my space and sucks all the joy out of me and the space. I try to avoid his gaze and certainly his touch.
"Aren't you going to offer me a drink?"
I really didn't want this to be a long visit. I stare at him blandly.
"Never mind, I know my way around."
He strides methodically to the kitchen. I don't bother to follow.
Soon I hear banging, crashing and slamming. Some foul mouthed utterances. "This won't do. This is much too cheerful in here."
I feel joy leaving my body. Why? Why today? I was doing so good.
"Knock-knock-knock!" I leap to the door, but Mr. Grey beats me there.
All I can see is a light. Bright and warm.
"Sorry, we are not interested." says the cold voice of Mr. Grey.
"But I am interested." I squeak out. Mr. Grey shoots me a look.
The light grows brighter.
"Can I come in?" says the warm voice. Although I don't immediately recognize the voice, it comforts me.
Mr. Grey shrinks.
In strides a luminous being. Feet barely touching the ground. Her presence changes the dynamic.
I can tell that Mr. Grey isn't pleased, but then again he never is.
I feel better, like it's going to be all right. Mr. Grey will not win today!
