MPS planting on the beach
Meridian Ports Services Limited (MPS) continues its commitment to protecting the environment. Two years ago, MPS has embarked on a tree planting exercise along the Tema Beach Road towards the site for the Tema Port Expansion Project.
Th excursive was named PLANTING THE WAY TO THE NEW PORT FACILITY and the main objective of the exercise was to contribute to the sustainability of the environment and beautify the environment. Back then, The CEO of MPS, Mohamed Samara, announced that this initiative is to plant 400 coconut seedlings (one tree by each employee).
Now that MPS has relocated to the new Terminal 3, this initiative was repeated to ; again hundreds of staff members of MPS and its main contractors CHEC, EIFFAGE as well as fisher folks from Sakumono joined the exercise on Saturday 16th November and again on 30th of November 2019 to plant the total of 500 new trees.
Apart from sustaining life, Mr. Samara informed the younger generation of staff at MPS that 27 years ago the Sakumono Beach Road looked like a place from heaven with coconut trees lining up the beach. “Despite the painful fact that the global warming and coastline erosion have wiped off the coconuts trees 2 decades ago, we are determined today to restore the heavenly scene so our children and the next generations can enjoy the beauty that we have seen.” Mr. Samara said.
The Chairman of MPS, Dr Edmund Osei Tutu Prempeh, said MPS believes in the sustainability of life and plating a tree is one of the best ways to preserve life. Dr. Prempeh shared his experience of planting tens of thousands of various species of trees and he encouraged every member of the staff to name the tree after himself and tell his family about it. “Grow, Grow, Grow, in the name of the Lord” prayed Dr. Prempeh as he was planting his tree.
The MPS staff celebrated the occasion which coincided with the partial opening of the third new berth and the arrival of the largest vessel ever to enter Ghanaian waters.

Teaches Investing
5 年If you clear a land for a project make sure you replaced the destroyed trees as Mr Samara is doing. Most time contractors finished their project without tree planting and the Government still give them more projects to work on. A generation that neglect the environment have not paid the price. Mr Samara I will personally thank you because I have seen a lot of finished projects like yours in the country who do not even have knowledge of tree planting.
Empowering results, empowering people.
5 年Whoever knows Mohamed a little bit cannot stop to be amazed at how much the care for the well being of all, not only his various teams working with him, the communities in which he lives or his family, is GENUINELY at the centre of everything he does. Whoever knows Mohamed a little bit more won't be surprised finding him replanting trees, not for the interest it will draw -as he does not care about that- but in true lover of trees. Toutes mes félicitations !!
