Mozambique makes its first shipment of LNG.

Maputo (Mozambique), 13 November 2022 - The first shipment of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for the international market left Mozambique today. This is the first natural gas extracted and liquefied from the offshore Coral Sul FLNG infrastructure operated by ENI and its partners in Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin.

The announcement of this major milestone was made this Sunday morning by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, who said on the occasion that the act put Mozambique in the annals of world history as one of the countries that export liquefied natural gas and demonstrates the recognition, by the market, that our country offers a stable, transparent and predictable environment for making multi-billion dollar investments, with the aim of monetizing the resources we have.

Meanwhile, Nyusi appealed to Mozambicans "not to take gas exploration as the only and greatest solution for our project to develop Mozambique", and should intensively increase production and productivity, of traditional activities, such as agriculture, fishing, tourism, projects of power generation, among others.

Coral Sul FLNG has a gas liquefaction capacity of 3.4 million tons per year (MTPA) and will bring 4.7 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of natural gas into production from the vast Coral reservoir during the term of the project and the LNG tanker that departed today, is the first under a long-term Purchase and Sale Agreement signed with BP Poisedon, which covers all of LNG produced by the Coral Sul FLNG project.
