Moving Through Resistance and Honouring Commitments: A Personal Journey

This week on Modern LeadHer the podcast, I shared a personal journey about moving through resistance and honouring commitments to yourself.
The Power of Commitment
Recently, I took a brief hiatus from delivering the podcast. It wasn't due to a lack of things to share, but rather resistance. Resistance also came up when committing to a daily sea swim through October.
Reflecting on past failed commitments, such as healthy eating plans and finishing books or courses, I realised the message it sends when you don't follow through. It's about self-leadership first and how that translates into your career as a leader.
Overcoming Resistance: A Personal Challenge
During my sea swim challenge, I faced resistance in the form of a head cold and time constraints. But I learned the need to pivot and be better prepared when resistance arises. I planned ahead for my future swims, anticipating future resistance due to weather changes - its getting colder and more wintery! Despite the mind chatter and discomfort, I committed to following through.
I encourage you to reflect on your own commitments. Are you showing up for yourself? Are you honouring the commitments you've made to yourself, such as eating healthier, scrolling less or going to the gym?

The Importance of Following Through Whatever It Looks Like
Four days in to the swim challenge I got a head cold, but instead of giving up altogether I decided I would still make the effort to go to the beach as that felt like a good alternative.
Giving in to resistance and not following through on commitments can lead to regret. But the benefits of activities like swimming, working out, eating healthily, learning something new, and taking time for yourself are immense.
Setting Intentions and Facing Resistance
I encourage you to identify one thing you are being called to commit to and set an intention to do it for a realistic but stretch period of time. Facing resistance and uncomfortable feelings is part of the process and an opportunity for self-awareness and growth. By leading ourselves and honouring our commitments, we become better leaders in all aspects of our lives.
Conclusion: The Ripple Effect of Self-Leadership
Remember, the ripple effect that comes from leading yourself and honouring commitments is powerful. It's not just about you, but also about the impact you can have on others.
So, let's commit to moving through resistance and honouring our commitments. Let's lead ourselves to become better leaders in all aspects of our lives.
