"Moving” to Support Those with Head and Neck Cancer
Did you know that more than 68,000 people are diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck (SCHHN) each year? In fact, head and neck cancers account for nearly 4% of all cancers in the United States.1
Although head and neck cancer is a highly prevalent form of cancer, awareness of the condition remains low. As a result, far too many people recognize symptoms too late and are only diagnosed at an advanced stage, when successful treatment is more challenging.
It is critical that we continue accelerating this progress, because today the impact of head and neck cancer is far too great. Despite the devastating impact and poor prognosis for patients with head and neck cancer, there have been few treatment advances in many decades.
At EMD Serono, we are focused on pioneering new approaches that may have the potential to enhance outcomes. To do this, we continuously listen to our patient communities and shape our efforts around their greatest needs.
That’s why this Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month, EMD Serono is honored to join the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance (HNCA) in raising awareness and resources for these conditions.
?
HNCA seeks to educate on head and neck cancer symptoms while driving earlier diagnosis through its free screening program. The organization also offers invaluable support to those affected by head and neck cancer, as the illness can impede patients’ ability to eat, speak, breathe and sleep.

This year, we are sponsoring HNCA’s inaugural Move-A-Thon, and many of us at EMD Serono are setting personal movement goals in honor of the 68,000 people diagnosed each year, and are excited about sharing our progress.
For my part, I’ve committed to a total of 68 miles of different activities throughout the month, including cross country skiing… I’m well on my way to reaching both my fundraising and movement goals!
Let's MOVE to celebrate survivors, give hope to those presently in treatment, and honor those that we have lost. HNCA needs our help to advance prevention, detection, treatment, and rehabilitation of oral, head, and neck cancer through public awareness, research, advocacy, and survivorship.
