MOVING TO HAWAII FOR DUMMIES~The Big Island, the "Best Island" to Live On
One of my favorite pictures I have taken while swiming with the dolphins.
Moving to Hawaii is as realistic as moving to any other state. It has a positive and negative side but the Big Island is indeed a great island for everyone. The Big Island is equipped for a modern lifestyle. Small towns, big towns, hot weather, cool weather, primary schools, universities, golf, surf, volcanoes — the Big Island has it all. The Hawaiian Islands are comprised of approximatly 6000 square miles in total land mass. The Big Island is 4000 of those square miles. Why perhaps we're called "The Big Island". I call it the Best Island (according to me, but hey as I've said before, who am I?). You have to be dead to be bored here!
It is fantastically diverse, with miles of highways and byways to explore. From old fishing villages to modern resorts, from snow-capped peaks to sandy beaches, you'll experience tropical splendor and its dramatic terrain will surprise you and take you to extremes. Eight of the world’s 13 climate zones exist here, encompassing Martian-like lava deserts, emerald jungle, paradisaical valleys and even green-sand beaches, snowcapped mountains, coral forests and an enchanting population of locals, hippies, eccentrics, bartenders, teachers and more.
If you're lucky enough, you might see lava pouring into the ocean next to black rock cliffs as the wind howls overhead on the Big Island. Remember the four classic elements? Earth, wind, water and fire. It’s rare to see all four occurring naturally at once but when they do, creation – of the island itself – quite literally takes place in front of your eyes.
Big Island really shines for adventurers. Its beauty is astounding, and for a little effort, perhaps a short hike, swim, or drive over rutted roads, you'll get enormous rewards on your travel investment. That is why the Big Island was ranked on the Top 20 Best Islands to Live on.
