Moving from setbacks to springboards – transforming your attitude

Leadership can often feel isolating and lonely. As a Coach, Advisor, and Confidante, I offer leaders and executives a secure environment for reflection, development, and feedback | Executive & Leadership Coach
You have this burning desire to achieve your goals, nothing will stand in your way! You have painstakingly created definite plans for success, fully supported by clear, concise and continuous action plans. You know what you want and where you are going. Your purpose is clear, you know your reason for being. Surely you cannot fail. You have carefully identified an alliance of key people to support, encourage and strengthen you along the way. We have all been to this place where we ‘know’ that our plans are destined for success! It’s just a matter of time before success is ours, before we experience its exquisite taste.
Instead ‘life happens’! What happens when your plans fail? When your carefully developed plans collapse? When you encounter setbacks, how do you respond? Do you give up or do you find excuses? Do you find someone to blame? Do setbacks put a halt to your dreams? Do not despair, do not retreat because setbacks are springboards. Right now you're asking, how are setbacks springboards? Yes, setbacks are springboards! Their purpose is to help you gain momentum, to propel you to the next level. Setbacks are always opportunities for growth and maturity. They come to test and teach, to sharpen and develop and ultimately to forge a ‘new and better’ you! A better you beaten into shape to better deal with adversity. Viewed from the right perspective setbacks are tough friends chiselling your path to success. Much like the seasoned fighter who’s been knocked down many-a-time and has risen to claim his rightful place in the annals of history. You are the fighter today and tomorrow’s hero.
So, the next time setbacks show up at your doorstep embrace them, learn from them and GROW! They always leave you a better person – bare a scar or two!
The lessons from all this are:
- Always plan well. Be thorough, be diligent.
- Be prepared to forge ahead despite the setbacks.
- Learn from them, they will come a-calling again when you pursue your next goal!
