Moving from Manhattan to Brooklyn? Read This.

Earlier this year, I wrote about the differences between two of the Big Apple's best boroughs to live in: Manhattan and Brooklyn. If you haven't read it yet, here's?the link?to the article on LinkedIn.

?

Both boroughs have lots to offer along the lines of livability. But historically, Manhattan residents are more likely to move out in search of a better home. This is true for people living near the borough's congested commercial centers. Many would prefer to escape the borough's high-rise environment and settle down in places with ample green spaces and cultural amenities.?

?

Surprisingly, Manhattanites didn't need to look far for a much-needed respite. Bloomberg reported?Brooklyn was the top destination?for Manhattan residents between March 2020 and February 2021.

?

The report added that around 20,000 people moved from Manhattan to Brooklyn. Florida came second with 19,000 Manhattanites choosing the Sunshine State.?

?

The trends may continue this year as prices and rent in Manhattan reach record-breaking heights. But affordability isn't the only explanation for the Big Move.?

?

In any case, a lot of thought should go into moving from Manhattan to Brooklyn. If this is your goal this year, here are a few reminders:

?

Affordability depends on the neighborhood

Most people will agree that Brooklyn — at least at the local level — is cheaper than Manhattan. In reality, Brooklyn has an even mix of high-end properties and living spaces with prices and rent lower than average for the entire city. It's just a matter of knowing which neighborhoods have options within your price range.?

?

Consider your lifestyle choices

If you are looking for a place that appeals to your aesthetic tastes, Brooklyn should be top-tier. From beautiful brownstones to a mix of restaurants across various cultural spectrums, the borough has a lot to offer.?

?

And you don't have to worry about moving in as a fur parent. Brooklyn has pet-friendly parks with wide spaces perfect for giving your dog a good workout. So, before you make your move, choose a place that gives you instant access to the amenities that align with your lifestyle.?

?

Know the best parking spaces

Are you bringing your car to Brooklyn? You need to know where you can park. It can be difficult to find a good spot for your vehicle, especially during rush hour. Other than that, you need to take note of the borough's alternate side parking regulations. These regulations take effect four times a week with suspensions during certain holidays or events.?

?

The reason for this is that Brooklyn cleans its streets more frequently than anywhere else in the city. So, be sure to check for alt-parking schedules or book a parking spot in advance if you don't want to experience the stress of finding the best spot for your vehicle.?

Are you planning to relocate from Manhattan to Brooklyn? There is a lot more to consider as you prepare for the big move.?

?

You need to stage and fix your current Manhattan home, get it listed, and organize tours for interested buyers. Other than that, you also need to survey the Brooklyn real estate market and find a property that fits the bill.
