Below is how I answered a few of the questions during my recent panel presentation at McGill University's Faculty of Education.
What is a rookie mistake you made in the beginning of your career that you see happening often?
I believed in the limitations that others expressed to me. I was slowed by the obstacles that were put before me. I believed I was worth what others decided for me. I learned those were all surmountable.
I learned to believe in myself and that is the most important aspect of well-being and success.
What are the main traits you look for when hiring?
1. Authentic -comfortable in their own skin, honest and transparent
2. Passionate -about helping others and making a difference
3. Reflective -a thinker, a lifelong learner and a dreamer
4. Creative -leading to innovation
What are some of the secrets to your success?
1. Get clarity
2. Focus on what you can control
3. Think of the big picture
4. Set your goals
5. Check-in with yourself periodically
6. Ask for support if you need it and you will need it
7. Continuously evaluate your goals to determine progress
8. Celebrate your accomplishments
What do you suggest to someone who wants to launch their personal brand?
1. Be yourself and stay true to who you are
2. Brand yourself consistently through all online platforms
3. Network in person when you can and online all the time
4. Speak publicly / Present a session / Write / Blog
5. Stay current within and outside your industry
6. Get involved in local charities and community groups
7. Promote yourself as much as your business
