Moving day and nosey neighbours
Packing and moving. Not really the type of event that brings "neighbours" to mind.
I'd like to share a rather interesting story from a recent move. I had been hired by the clients to manage their move, and something quite unexpected happened.
The clients had already gone ahead to their new home. I was at the client's old home waiting for the movers to arrive, and making sure absolutely everything was packed and ready to go inside the house.
Being that I was alone in the home, I was surprised to hear noises coming from outside. I went to investigate, and it turns out one of the neighbours was going through items that were left in the garage.
I politely inquired what she was doing. It seems she was helping herself to items left in the garage, because in her mind, "nobody wanted them." I escorted her out and explained garage items had already been promised to other people, therefore, out of bounds.
For most people that might seem like a funny story highlighting how odd neighbours can be. For me, it's part of the job. Had the home owners been home, it could have developed into an unpleasant confrontation. Home owners are already anxious and stressed on moving day. This is definitely not something they would consider funny.
That's what one of the services I provide is move management....so my clients don't have to deal with the unpleasant, and unforeseen issues that often come up on moving day.
