Moving Day ― Moving Forward
The last few weeks have been hectic between tying up loose ends at CBN and packing for the movers.
I have accumulated 52 years of personal belongings, plus an additional stock pile from my 23 years at CBN. It was overwhelming just thinking about where to start. At first, everything seemed valuable and important, but I needed to focus in what was truly meaningful. This helped me separate the “wheat from the chaff”.
Every item had a story. So many memories surfaced. That’s why we save things. They represent a feeling we had at that moment in time and we want to preserve it. But life can get in the way and blindside us, forever changing the memories of those cherished treasures. After going through a divorce, some of those good memories are now hurtful. Many things I saved once defined me, but I’m not that person anymore. I found unopened boxes from previous moves as far back as 25 years ago. If they weren’t important enough to have opened by now, why bring them moving forward?
God has blessed me beyond measure with a godly and stunning wife, two handsome sons, a beautiful daughter, a new career, and now we’re moving to a new home in a different State. Everything that happens from the moment we leave Virginia will be completely new memories for us. Everything will be a first.
So, as the movers load all our belongings onto the truck, I only want good things to go with us. Things that will be fruitful for our family. No need to have reminders of my past when we have such an amazing future ahead of us. This process wasn’t really about streamlining, but redefining. Not only did this lighten the load for the move, it lifted a burden from me.
I’m living in the here and now, enjoying and seizing every moment as we step into our future.

3 年Thanks for sharing, John. I too have done that same thing and come to the same conclusions. Remembering the past is nice, but freeing yourself for the future is awesome! Looking forward to hearing about your adventures!
