Moving on.
11 years ago, I walked into some brightly lit offices on Mandela Street in Camden for an interview. The place was teeming with 25ish year olds, screens full of code, free food and booze, a music room (?!) and not a suit in sight. I met the unforgettable Paul Fisher , who ultimately offered me a job, arranged a shiny MacBook from the IT cupboard of dreams, and I was off.
The company was Forward Internet Group, containing Uswitch , Forward3D and a bunch of other companies. Growing like a weed, making more money than they knew what to do with and, as far as I could tell, having a lot of fun in the process.
Within a couple of months I was on an all-expenses paid trip to Vegas with the entire company. Everyone went. From the account managers, to the CEOs, to the customer service team. Four days in Vegas. When I was at Deloitte we had a free box of fruit twice a week. It was mad.
I was also treated to a crash course in digital business with a bunch of very smart people as my teachers. I owe so much to our little team of Paul, Martin Brennan , Yannick R. , Cem Guralp and Emma Slade . But Forward was chock full of great people - Carl Gaywood , Michael Jones , Evgeny Shadchnev , Andy Kent , Nick Kostelnik , Anthony Price , Matt Wheeler , Robin Landy , Rob Murphy , Jason Parmar , Robert Thorogood , Anna Chojnicka , Michael Fuller … Too many more to mention here.
And in charge of it all, an understated northerner called Neil Hutchinson . More on him in a sec.
Fast forward two years or so, uSwitch was sold and NEON was born. Quite a few people proactively advised me not to work for a "HNW". I listened to their advice, chose to ignore it and never looked back. What a journey it has been since.
We developed a hotel in Marrakech (IZZA, nearly open), sponsored a professional cycling team and "trained" in the California hills with them (hey Axel Merckx and Tao Geoghegan Hart ).

We backed Secret Cinema to make magic out of movies, invested in the spy stories of John Le Carré and started Fellowship, bringing top photographers' work onto the blockchain.
We shipped boxes of dog food from our office before opening a little warehouse in Barking with the scariest neighbours you could possibly imagine.
We created the NEON Foundation , launched kindness.org to encourage kindness, changed how data is used in schools and supported other amazing charities like Founders Pledge and charity: water . At one stage we hid cash in blue envelopes all over London and called it #givemondays.
We sold companies, invested in others, started some ourselves and shut a few down. We've had big successes and our fair share of failures and hard lessons. Getting gazumped at the 11th hour on our London HQ (HT to Michael Blair for helping resolve that) and having to make redundancies are hard experiences I’d rather not repeat, but they also played their part in the story.
Over all the ups and downs, Neil has been an unwavering source of optimism and entrepreneurial energy. Calm, humble, trusting and fair. I've literally never seen him lose his temper or even hint at raising his voice. Business success is pretty worthless if you can't be a good person at the same time and so for that, kudos and a huge thank you from me for being a top class boss.
Friday was my last day at NEON (and therefore Fellowship and Front of the Pack too). I embark on a new challenge in April, and I'm very excited about different perspectives, learning new things and building a family office from scratch. But I'm also sad to be leaving a group that's been a huge part of my working life.
Here's to working with great people who give you energy and joy. Thanks for the memories Neil Hutchinson , Olufunke Sholaja , San Yetlee (the OGs), Christian Kusneraitis , Sally, Lisa and all the colleagues that came before. Big love and best of luck to you all.
