Menopause remains one of the most under-studied areas in health and women everywhere are feeling the effect of this stage of life. Here are a few fast facts that may surprise you about menopause:?

FACT 1: The average Canadian woman will spend up to HALF of her life in a menopausal state (perimenopause, menopause, postmenopause).?

  • FACT 2: 3 out 4 women experience menopausal symptoms that interfere with their daily lives and 1 in 4 women suffer severe menopausal symptoms.?
  • FACT 3: Most women reach menopause between the ages of 45 and 55. 1 in 100 women will experience menopause before the age of 40.??
  • FACT 4: 10% of women may stop working due to unmanaged symptoms of menopause.?
  • FACT 5: For many individuals, menopausal symptoms are not trivial or short-lived. You do not need to suffer in silence and there are a range of options to help.?
  • FACT 6: Prior to menopause, estrogens protect against heart disease, which is the number one killer of women in Canada.??
  • FACT 7: Perimenopause is not only an endocrine transition state but also a neurological transition state. Many common symptoms of menopause start in the brain.??
