Moving beyond our past

As we begin 2024, I’m eagerly looking forward to all that is ahead for lululemon as we continue to deliver for our guests and our employees.

We are pleased with the momentum we are continuing to see around the world in the business, and with our work to advance the wellbeing of our people and planet through our Impact Agenda. Creating a future where everyone feels they’re welcome and belong at lululemon, and in our communities, will continue to be a priority for us all.

I also want to share my perspective on the recent statements made by Chip Wilson, which was shared with the media and our internal teams last week:

Chip Wilson does not speak for lululemon – period. He has not been involved with our company for nearly a decade and his views are entirely his own. They are completely against what lululemon stands for, the values of our brand today, and who we want to be for our global collective moving forward.

Reflecting on these comments, what is clear is that we are a stronger company today because of the culture we have built together, and how we have moved well beyond the misguided and simply out of touch views expressed by one individual.

Our brand is rooted in wellbeing, and helping all people feel their best. I don’t believe brands choose people; I believe people choose brands that represent their values. We value inclusion and we invite all who share this view to join us.

lululemon will continue to become a more inclusive and diverse company for our people, guests, and communities, as we serve a growing collective across markets and around the world.

There is always more work to be done, and I’m incredibly proud of the lululemon that we have become and the powerful opportunities ahead of us. I know we will continue to become a stronger company because of what our people create and nurture together, day by day.

Really enjoyed reading the reflection on supporting one another. How a leader makes an individual feel will always stick with them. Many leaders simply exert power based on title. Those who develop and care for their employees exude traits leading towards referent power. One of my mentors always instilled in me that referent is the highest form of power, as it can never be obtained on your own but rather must be bestowed upon you by others.
