Moving Beyond!

Siemens Mobility might be a young company, but it has a long, successful history with a unique DNA. Above all, it is a great, passionate team that, especially in the challenging months of the Corona crisis, has been and continues to be reliable and dedicated, completing important project milestones, acquiring new orders and maintaining business continuity for our customers and society. We are the market leader in digitalization; and our innovations continue to impress and, what’s even more important, serve our customers; and our key financials are sound.

Yet as the leading player in our mobility industry, that is an integral part of Siemens, it is time to clearly state where we are heading to - aspiring to shape the future of mobility.

We have long had a clear mission that defines who we are (“with digitalization, we enable mobility operators worldwide to make trains and infrastructure intelligent, to increase value sustainably over the entire lifecycle, to enhance passenger experience, and to guarantee availability”); and many of you may not just heard it, but have witnessed us deliver on it. But a mission does not say where you want to go, what we aspire to become, where we want to take our great business.

This is why today we launched, first to our employees and then to the general public, our vision. Here it is: We are global entrepreneurs, trusted by our partners to pioneer transportation, moving people sustainably and seamlessly from the first mile to the last.

Now the most important thing about a vision is of course not to just have one, but to make it become real. And there are real tasks in there for all of us at Siemens Mobility. “Moving people sustainably” – of course, rail is known as the most sustainable mode of transportation; but we need an entire transportation eco-system that passes the sustainability test, from road to rail, from interurban to intraurban – and as you all know, we’re not there yet. “Seamlessly” – yes, the first steps have been made to integrate various modes of transportation, making use of the opportunities digitalization offers in this regard; but these are just first steps towards a goal that I believe is extremely appealing and important to everyone who travels. Indeed I am convinced that it is vital for the success of rail transportation to have a seamless connection to others forms of transport to make rail the attractive backbone of the complete trip: “From the first mile to the last” – that’s in the end what it’s all about: you need to get from every door to every other door, with no-one left behind (neither in cities nor in the countryside), and with generating equal access for everyone to the opportunities out there.

And of course, nothing of this comes without hard work. Which is why we want to be a team of real entrepreneurs, ready to accept challenges for the benefit of our customers, but also reliable in execution to be a trusted partner to them. Being entrepreneurs means that we empower our almost 40.000 employees to have the courage to take the right decisions for our customers and us, because the Siemens Mobility team is simply made up by the best people in our industry.
