Moving on

I’ve never been convinced about the idea of having a detailed career plan. Opportunities come and go; you weigh them up, consider your options, trust your gut instinct and, sometimes, you take the leap.

Joining University College of Estate Management (UCEM) in 2021 was a leap. After three enjoyable years of freelance work the short review of statutory reporting at UCEM grew into a broader project about data capabilities which then grew to the point where joining the team for two years felt like a natural move. Since then, the role has continued to expand ending up as a blend of CDO and CIO, with a little DPO thrown in for good measure.

That two years has grown to three and this summer my time at UCEM comes to an end. We’ve made great progress on data and technology….and while there’s always more to do, we’re moving in a good direction and the future is looking like a much better place. I’ve learned a huge amount and have been lucky enough to form some great friendships.

I don’t know what my next move is going to be. There are huge challenges and opportunities around data and technology and I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my adventure…
