Moving to Algeria as an entrepreneur

Moving to Algeria as an entrepreneur

Today, I am providing a solution to a problem that I faced a couple of years back.

It was in 2010, just a few weeks after moving to Algeria. I was planning to start my 1st company, in the field of trading and B2B commercial representation, later named it “Clip Agency”. I found myself scrambling those days trying to issue a commercial register. The business model was ready, international clients briefed and secured, but the issue was that I didn’t have enough funds to finance office rent for a full year contract, which is a requirement if you are to apply for a commercial register in Algeria. Nor did I know a person or have access to a community where I could simply garner some support and exchange thoughts with.

Now back to 2018. I am seeing a repeat of this situation but this time around I am at the service front of providing a solution. In the past few weeks I received a growing number of young Algerians born and raised abroad that decided to visit Algeria. They are driven by curiously about the “Bled” and what sort of opportunities are out there. These are people in their late twenties and early thirties, free of any responsibilities and can afford to be adventurous from a business point of view.

They visit either as potential members to explore our services, most notably the process of establishing a legal company, made both easy and affordable. Or they visit to simply exchange ideas, to learn about the business environment, regulatory procedures or in search for young talent to collaborate with.

I met an Algerian American, who is making his 1st ever visit to Algeria and exploring the possibility to launch a digital platform for real estate market. An Algerian French that moved from Lyon that seeks to form a local team for software developers. Another who worked in HR field from London and planning to start a recruitment outsourcing company.

I feel privileged to be in a position nowadays to support fellow countryman that come from abroad seeking to do something in Algeria. I know that crossing the sea and facing unchartered territory can be daunting at times and I hope that The Address can make the journey just a bit simpler.
