MOVIES UNDER ATTACK BY UNFAIR CRITICISM
Unfair criticism is if it is not asked for and it is inaccurate; if it is purely malicious without any useful nuggets and causes more harm than good. Criticism of the art of motion picture is often unfair when the critic misses the point of the artwork.?
?
Mr. Big Shot takes great pleasure in denigrating humble filmmakers and their art which cost them many years of hard work, sacrifice and struggle. First, there are the long, hard years?of costly education learning the fine art of motion picture. Then more long, arduous years of?scrounging up enough dollars and resources to survive and finally afford the movie production itself. However, guided by an elitist ego, Mr. Big Shot mercilessly points out whatever piddling mistakes he can find in order to inflate them and his ego to punish any humble filmmaker who dares to make an honest film in the first place.?He knows everything. Even the artist's?unique vision and hard-earned talent are clear to him and deserve his damning criticism. Does he know?that most of the mistakes he claims?are present in the film only exist in his caustic, myopic mind? A mind that lacks ability to follow the story, as well as knowledge in production expenses and creative development. But what the heck, criticizing hardworking artists and their labors of love only?requires a superiority complex and a desire to hurt them.??
?
His statement: "The worst sin any movie can commit in my eyes, is to be boring.?Give me an interesting story and I could care less about your budget. A good script does not cost $100 million."?
?
However, even a good script can be boring without the expensive elements that turn the script into a motion picture. Not to mention the cost of good actors and a professional crew. People who?don't understand filmmaking and the difference between $100M and $600K budgeted films shouldn't publicly criticize the difficult job and art of envisioning and creating a decent but entertaining movie.??Especially when the criticism is published without the artist's knowledge.

"As long as it’s not boring, I’ll likely find something nice to say" states Mr. Big Shot. HARDLY. Here is just one?of?his many supercilious, sophomoric criticisms, a superfluous attack upon my film's story and plot:?"...the owner serving 18 years in prison for ordering the murder of his wife."?

A murder related to my production? I was startled before I realized what he was babbling about. It was the exterior location of a bar that we used as establishing shot for the bar interior. It was located in a quiet street where a shooting permit wasn't required. The bar was abandoned and the neon sign was on. A perfect location for the one shot we needed. The interior bar was filmed in a film studio. Thank heaven Mr. Big Shot couldn’t phantom that one.

He kindly provides his email address for the filmmakers he makes happy, if there are any. The offended ones are directed to:?[email protected] with a warning for the whiners, as he calls them, that defense is not accepted. Getting wounded by unfair criticism sucks, but it teaches us that haters with an urge to control hardworking artists will always be there and ready to throw them under the bus.???
