Movies - A Pillar of Creativity

Movies are a lustrous symbol of humanity’s drive towards creativity, just like books. Whenever I watch a movie, I always keep in mind to observe the director’s and actors’ take on the different pieces of the movie - the myriad scenes and emotional fragility that each person involved lends to the larger framework. This is what engages the audience in an often overwhelming and immersive experience. And a movie is successful only if it has the capacity to diffuse into people’s minds, thereby instigating thought and action in them. In a couple of my previous posts, I had written extensively on two movies that have had a lion’s share of influence on me. Here are a few more that I would like to add to the mix.

Clint Eastwood’s, ‘Invictus’, which came out in 2009 portrays post-apartheid South Africa under Nelson Mandela’s governance. Can one man’s burning vision and zeal alter the course of a nation still reeling from communal strife and indifference? Can he inspire people to rise out of the abyss, only to create a safer and harmonious country? How is it even possible? I'm sure these are probably the only questions that'll run through your mind while watching this movie. Clint’s ingenious directorial skills coupled with Morgan’s apparent simplicity in acting lend an even greater charm to an already beautiful theme. A must-watch indeed for anyone who wishes to know how one man can make an impactful difference.

‘Rocket Boys’ released way back in 1999, takes us on a wonderful joy ride through the lives of Homer H. and a couple of kids from an ordinary coal mining village, as they struggle to build and launch their own rockets. And what was their inspiration? - the momentous launch of ‘Sputnik’ and watching its indescribably beautiful orbit around the Earth. Through the failures, shortcomings, and disappointments, they preserve and finally launch their very own rocket after innumerable attempts. Isn't this what inspiration is all about? - something that we can feel deep in our bones and instills a purpose in us? Isn't this what goals are? Isn't the very mere thought that we are contributing towards something larger than ourselves what makes life all the more meaningful and joyful? Isn't this what gives life its unfounded freedom? As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

That's all from me for now. Which movies would you like to bring to the table? Do post them in the comments below. ????. Let's learn and grow together.

One movie I distinctly remember having made a strong impression on me was a movie titled ‘To be or not to be’ based on a theatrical company performing during German occupation of Poland. I liked it so much that as soon as I came out I bought a ticket and viewed the next show!! Of course this was more than thirty five years back . I was a lonely bachelor working far away from home in Vishakapatnam when TV was not a common possession.. This movie is not available now .I checked out ..would love to revisit and find out whether I will like it now as much I did then . Well some movies like chupke Chupke, Golmaal are classics you can watch over and over again and enjoy every time ..
