Movement & Music

Today I'd love to share how the joy of movement has transformed my world.
You might not know this about me but I love to dance. Not just any dance but in particular a Brazilian dance, called forró. ?? It's become such an integral part of my life that I'm now not only dancing it but also organising it. When the scene was slowing down here in Brighton, I stepped in to revive it, bringing people back to the dance floor with renewed energy.
The reason I bring this up is to highlight how music, especially the kind that gets you moving, fills our soul with joy. It activates our brain's motor system, creating an irresistible urge to move. ????
Music has the power to transform the physical sensations of exercise, turning sweat and breathlessness into something enjoyable and fun. ???♂???
Finding a movement you love, like dancing, not only boosts your physical health but also helps build social connections. While dancing is a fantastic way to bring people together, there are plenty of other activities like:
?? park runs,
???walking groups,
???acro-yoga,
??water aerobics?
These shared experiences strengthen our sense of community and encourage us to support one another. This is a beautiful intersection of science and spirituality, where challenging our bodies results in benefits that go beyond the physical.
Perhaps this is why events like marathons are so popular...
Movement is wonderful, and the intensity of it matters too. ??

Personally, I experience this at dance marathons during forró festivals, where I dance for up to 14 hours a day. It's both challenging and exhilarating.
If you're finding it hard to incorporate movement into your life, start with something simple: put on a song you love and move however feels right to you. ????
Whether it's stretching, walking, or just moving your arms, this can reset your mood and brain chemistry.??
Figure out the best time of day for this reset, maybe after waking up or after a tough day at work.
From there, you can develop your own routine and find a community that supports it.
Today, how about reflecting on what brings you joy in movement?
What activity currently lights up your spirit, or what new adventure could you embark on to find that happiness??
I can't wait to hear...
To your health,
Jules
