8 Tech And IT Companies Targeted In The MOVEit Attacks

Nearly a month after the discovery of a critical vulnerability in Progress' widely used MOVEit file transfer software, the impacts from a wave of related cyberattacks and data breaches continue to worsen. Clop, a Russian-speaking cybercriminal group, has claimed responsibility for breaching dozens of organizations by exploiting the vulnerability, and many have confirmed that they were affected.

In all, more than 100 organizations have been listed on Clop's dark web site or have separately disclosed a security incident related to the MOVEit vulnerability, according to a tally by Emsisoft threat analyst Brett Callow.

In its widespread MOVEit campaign, Clop has struck a range of organizations including at least eight well-known tech vendors and IT services firms that have confirmed being impacted or been claimed as victims by Clop so far. The group has been demanding extortion payments from alleged victims in exchange for not posting stolen data on its dark web site. Here's what you need to know about the eight tech and IT companies targeted in the MOVEit attacks.

Oracle Bets On AMD, Ampere CPUs; Ellison Says 'Intel x86 Architecture' Is 'Reaching Its Limit'

Oracle reportedly plans to spend significant amounts of money this year on CPUs from AMD and chip startup Ampere Computing for new infrastructure as the company's founder and chairman Larry Ellison said that the "old Intel x86 architecture" is "reaching its limit."

The Austin, Texas-based infrastructure giant announced new initiatives with AMD and Ampere Computing in separate announcements over the past week. The moves underline the increased competition faced not just by Intel but also AMD, which makes x86 chips too, as Arm-based CPUs designed by companies like Ampere Computing proliferate deeper into the cloud and data center markets.

Ellison reportedly omitted Intel's name when discussing the firm's processor spending plans Wednesday: "This year, Oracle will buy GPUs and CPUs from three companies. We will buy GPUs from Nvidia, and we're buying billions of dollars of those. We will spend three times that on CPUs from Ampere and AMD."

Last week, Oracle revealed that it is fully eschewing Intel CPUs in favor of AMD CPUs for the company's purpose-built database infrastructure, Exadata, across on-premises and cloud offerings for the first time in the platform's 14-year history.

New Relic will lay off up to 255 employees, about 10 percent of the company's workers, as part of a restructuring plan, the cloud-based observability platform vendor revealed Tuesday.

The layoffs appear to have included roles associated with solution providers and partners, according to CRN's review of New Relic employees' LinkedIn posts this week.

In a blog post Tuesday, New Relic CEO Bill Staples said that the company will lay off about 212 employees, 155 in the U.S. and 57 outside the country.
