Move through your BS

Hello dear readers, I hope this finds you well.?If not, fear not.
I’m here today to offer some perspective if you’re not feeling so hot in any areas of your life at the current moment.
There’s a brilliant book called, “You are a Badass: How to stop doubting your greatness and start living an awesome life” by Jen Sincero (Running Press, 2013).?If you’ve yet to have the pleasure, I recommend you buy it and soak up the goodness.?Or, borrow it from your local library.? Moment of gratitude: thank you humans who run our libraries throughout the world!
I digress.
In her book, in Chapter 4, she talks about what she calls the ‘Big Snooze’, or BS for short.?Read/listen to the book for greater understanding and context, but for this moment, long story short – the ‘Big Snooze’ shows up when you’ve made up the decision to change your reality in a way that more aligns with who you know you truly are rather than how you’ve been showing up in this gift called life thus far.
Sincero reinforces that when we make this 100% commitment to ourselves, that’s when the BS shows up and, often times, in physical forms.?This is an attempt by BS to sabotage your determination to move through your comfort zone and out into deep waters, as reinforced by Bishop T.D. Jakes in many of his sermons.
I appreciate Sincero encouraging each of us to stay mindful and aware, especially in these moments, because these are the times when it’s crucial to keep going and move forward with your decision and commitment to yourself, not concede and say to the BS, “…fine, you win.?I’ll stop and go back to my corner.”
I share this with you because, well, it’s important to know the truth – you and I aren’t alone when these moments present themselves.?
Also, because I’ve recently caught the BS ‘in the act’ in my life as I continue to answer God’s call and build my dream business, Tutum Leadership Coaching.

The moment I realized the BS was in full motion a few weeks ago, I had just split my finger open by accidentally mistaking my finger nail for the metal nail I was attempting to hammer while volunteering on a construction site building homes for families in my community who are currently housing insecure.?I was also starting to experience a sore throat, sniffles, and a slight body ache.?
As I contemplated calling it quits for the remainder of the day and next couple of days – it hit me: ‘Ha! This is the ‘Big Snooze’ Jen talks about!’?Exactly in that same moment, my finger pain and throbbing subsided, I got off the couch, took an allergy pill, and got back to my keyboard.?When I got back to my desk, I realized I could still type with the outside of my finger that got smashed and it didn’t hurt to type that way.
I’m not saying to ignore pain.?I am saying to take a moment to truly check in with yourself about what you might be subconsciously avoiding by not pushing your comfort zone.?
I know it’s not easy and, as every successful person knows, to be successful requires being comfortable with being uncomfortable.?
Let’s continue to give our BS the boot and create and live into, as Larry Long Jr. says, our BHAGs (Big Hairy Audacious Goals)!?

2 年I absolutely love that book! I thank you for the reminder to not lie down and let BS win. As someone with Fibromyalgia, there are many times I had let the pain, Fibro fog, or other symptoms win rather than making that choice to live regardless. Now, there are still times where the pain does impact my day. However, I have not automatically resigned to it. I am consciously aware and decide to allow my body to rest that day knowing that tomorrow is a different day.
