Move Sports Receives Two TRF Awards

Move Sports Receives Two TRF Awards

This month our European Director Mike Mulroy was on his travels again, this time supporting the Portugal Rugby Youth Festival.

This incredible and popular event, now in its 15th year is the biggest and most popular youth rugby event in Europe attracting over 2000 players from 17 different countries to the beautiful and historic city of Lisbon

Move Sports , the team behind not only the Youth Festival but also tournaments and tours in many other sports, has as you'd imagine a well drilled and experienced team working tirelessly to deliver over 300 rugby games across 8 pitches, to over 100 teams in just 2 days.

António da Cunha a former Portuguese National player, 7s captain and CEO of Move Sports believes "in the transformative power of sports". "Sports is always a celebration of the human body and the human soul working together. Sports makes us bigger, better - not only physically but mentally too."

Players from around Europe experience sport in a large stadium

Antonio's words are clearly embedded in the Rugby Youth Festival. Seeing so many young players from around the world coming together at the Lisbon University Sports Complex is a real treat; probably for the first time in their lives, they get to experience what it is like to play in a real stadium, running out of the stand and through a tunnel of screaming fans. It's thanks to their loyal dedication to improving and enabling youth rugby in Portugal whilst promoting friendship across borders that The Rugby Foundation is pleased to present both Antonia and Bernardo Costa Duarte with the Spirit of Rugby Award.

Move Sports, like TRF is constantly working hard to ensure that their events place as little impact upon the environment around us as possible and with more than 5000 people attending each day, that is no easy task. As well as encouraging people to do away with single use plastics, the guys know that is easier said than done and so they employ a huge operation to minimise waste and maximise recycling.

The recycling operation at the PRYF is a mammoth undertaking

Colour coded bins, signs and a team who ensure that the rubbish goes in the right place, helps the participants and fans to do their bit for the environment too, and so TRF is proud to also be able to award Move Sports with their Green Rugby Recycles Award, a logo they can use and a trust in their aims; we hope that we are able to award them with our Silver logo this time next year.
